This photo was taken by Butler Stevens a few weeks before the restoration was complete, and the theatre opened. The decoration by Restoration Associates was not complete yet in this area. There is a link to the Restoration Associates website near the bottom of this page. There are other pages with pictures of the finished restoration, and pre restoration photos.
The photo above was taken at the house left box surround, at the top center. Oddly, the mouth on this mask, as well as all the other large masks in the theatre, was plastered shut. I removed the plugs, at the direction of Milton Babbitt, and then detailed the various tongues, teeth, and lips that were exposed. The photos below were also taken by Butler Stevens on the same day.
